Today, Quinta do Cota, located in Montemor-o-Novo, is more than just an agricultural property. It's a place where tradition, passion, and respect for the land come together to create excellent wines with minimal intervention, such as the Avó Zeca, Bosque Destinto, and Exmo labels. Each bottle is a testament to dedication, authenticity, and a commitment to the concept of Farm Wine - a philosophy that values proximity to the land and the consumer. Produced on 3.5 hectares of carefully cultivated vineyards, Quinta do Cota's wines express the richness of the Alentejo terroir and the unique characteristics of the Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, and Tinta Barroca grape varieties.
From the Stony Mountains to Quinta do Cota: The Alentejo Farm Wine Journey

A Journey of Life and Resilience

A farming accident in the 1950s irrevocably altered my life's trajectory. The loss of my father, José Francisco Parreira, my hero and mentor, left an indelible mark. At the tender age of seven, I confronted grief but held onto the resilient spirit he had ignited within me. Driven by the pursuit of education and a brighter future, I ventured through the rugged landscapes of Alentejo, ultimately making the heart-wrenching decision to migrate to Sintra.
Life's journey took me on many paths, including military service and a fulfilling career in communications, where I worked for renowned organizations like "O Século", RTP, Impala, and Grupo Impresa. Yet, the dream of returning to my ancestral home, Montemor-o-Novo, in the Alentejo, and connecting with the land I loved never faded.
Fifty years after leaving Alentejo, I returned to Montemor-o-Novo to bring Quinta do Cota to life. Under the generous sun, Atlantic breeze, and Mediterranean climate, our vines thrive, producing exceptional grapes. At Quinta do Cota, our 3.5 hectares of vineyards are cultivated using sustainable and integrated practices, respecting the natural cycle and ensuring that each grape—whether Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, or Tinta Barroca—reaches its full potential. This project is more than just producing wine; it's about telling stories, preserving traditions, and creating unforgettable experiences for our consumers.
